This development in the Dingle, Liverpool provides
a gateway to the Include Regeneration Area and
demonstrates how redundant local landmarks in
Housing Market Renewal Areas can be brought
back into use.
The Wellington Road School buildings have been
converted to provide 26 flats which exploit the generous
floor-to-ceiling heights and large windows of the original
Edwardian building. A two-storey penthouse containing
12 maisonettes has been slotted behind the parapet
of the original rooftop playground from where they will
have views over the Mersey and Liverpool. Ten new
family townhouses with private back gardens have been
built on the footprint of a former annexe.
With its mix of shared ownership and private
homes under the Pathfinder programme the scheme
helps to redress the local imbalance towards social
rented housing.
