Cranfield University is vacating its 62-acre campus at Silsoe, and PTEa’s masterplan aims to create a positive legacy for the site. Following a series of successful consultation events with the local community an outline planning consent has been recently granted: it aims to provide an organic extension to the existing village which will underpin and improve local services.
The village extension will include 380 new homes; a relocated and expanded school; indoor and outdoor sports facilities; offices and studios for small businesses; and 35 acres of open space for the enjoyment of all the villagers, including equipped play areas, a village green and pond, and a community wood.
The village lies next to the nationally important historic garden at Wrest Park, and PTEa’s masterplan extends a grand axis from the park up to the new school proposed at the heart of the village extension.
