St Thomas’ School serves one of the most deprived communities in the country, suffering from high levels of unemployment, crime and poor health. The new school provides a hall which is open for community use out of school hours, and is an important source of neighbourhood cohesion and stability. The sculptured metallic assembly hall sits like a jewel in the centre of the scheme and forms a local landmark, announcing its new community role.
