Inner city primary schools have difficulty in obtaining high quality premises. There is also a shortage of homes in these areas. PTEa has devised a solution to this problem at St Thomas’, financing a complete rebuilding programme through the income generated by the sale of 69 apartments built above the school.
The new school provides increased classroom space which opens onto a landscaped play space and garden. An external stair leads up to a metallic assembly hall which sits between the two residential wings and marks the main entrance. This central block, housing hall, studio, foyer and community room, is designed so that it can be used by the community out of school hours.
