crystal wharf islington n1
PTEa won an open competition, held by British Waterways, in1998, for the design and development of a building at the junction of the Regent’s Canal and City Road Basin. This mixed-use scheme has been developed jointly by PTE and Groveworld and is adjacent to PTEa’s office at Diespeker Wharf.
There are 57 flats and commercial office space, in three linked blocks, arranged around a landscaped courtyard. PTEa’s own building forms the fourth side. Each block has a distinctive character: a curved and sloping “crystal” overhangs the canal, a brick palazzo building looks over the adjacent park and a curved, rendered wing faces the street.
