Over the past 15 years PTEa has developed successful responses to the rapid growth in residential density
in our cities, towns and suburbs and
the shift towards apartment-living
triggered by economic, political and
cultural trends.
We have cautioned against
monolithic and excessively tall
development and shown how
popular homes can be created at high
density in more subtle ways through
intelligent and contextual planning,
often combining different housing
typologies on one site: houses,
duplexes, contemporary ‘mansion
flats’ – and landmark towers where
they are justified by their location.
Our built work anticipates (and has
influenced) much of the best
practice described in recent
publications like the London Housing
Design Guide. Using good design
to enhance the experience of
residents and their visitors – both
within the home and in their journey
to the front door – has made our
apartments popular with renters and
buyers alike and helped maintain the
commercial success of PTEa projects
throughout the economic downturn.
