roman ridge sheffield
This extra-care housing scheme to the northeast of Sheffield city centre is set on a long, narrow and sloping site with extensive views to open countryside.
The building is arranged as a series of interconnected blocks along the sinuous site, making best use of the available land. Links between the blocks are generously glazed to bring daylight and sunshine into the heart of the building and provide views to street and countryside at regular intervals.
The main entrance is curved and rendered to signal the entrance to the building and allow generous spaces for the entrance lobby and foyer, while the rear elevation
responds to its rural outlook with metal roofs with metal rods, vertical timber boarding above brickwork, and rough stone plinths.
The scheme received Department of Health funding as a result of a successful joint bid by Sheffield City Council Housing Department and Sanctuary Housing.
