As a natural extension of our work
in residential communities, PTEa has
a growing portfolio of schools
projects, including the completion
of four new primary schools and the remodelling of several primary
and secondary schools. Our work
encompasses complex and confined
urban sites and also spacious
suburban locations.
PTEa’s experience in urban
regeneration and in property
development enables us to realise
the full potential of schools as
community hubs rather than standalone
institutions. We are specialists
in enabling use by the wider
community (without compromising
the safe and effective operation of
the school) and in the co-location
of schools within mixed-use
developments. We have helped to
pioneer the development of homes
above schools, which can bring
wide regenerative benefits and
also raise cross-subsidy for school
developments: in the most ambitious
cases entire new school buildings can
be funded in this way, replacing or
minimising reliance on scarce grant.
We work in close collaboration with
teachers, governors and Heads, and
also with the children and students,
who come into our offices to learn
about the design process and teach
us about what they need to make a
better school.
