![]() Pollard Thomas Edwards architects (PTEa) is a practice committed to making our towns and cities better places to live. PTEa combines high quality design with explicit social purpose, and marries an understanding of whole community needs with an acute commercial instinct. PTEaÕs approach is to consider carefully how to place new work in the context of the existing situation. We have 30 years of architectural experience in the design of new and refurbished buildings and the sustainable regeneration of whole neighbourhoods. We have undertaken and completed many large scale urban regeneration projects. Our masterplans include the provision of residential, social, commercial and leisure facilities and depend on the detailed involvement of local people. We are also undertaking major commissions for regeneration in the suburbs and the design of rural new towns. Pollard Thomas Edwards is at the forefront of architect-led, socially responsible property development. We aim to transform run-down or derelict sites and provide a social return by improving the local environment and integrating local communities. The enthusiastic involvement of local people has been a crucial factor in the success of some of PTEa's largest residential projects, including the regeneration of whole estates. By means of design workshops, exhibitions, surveys, awaydays and planning-for-real exercises, PTEa has gained the confidence of communities, which have often suffered years of false starts and disappointment, leading to a shared vision of the future. Even with smaller infill developments, PTEa actively seeks community views to contribute to the planning process. PTEaÕs base at Diespeker Wharf is a kind of living workshop of urban regeneration. The listed Victorian wharf, at the Angel Islington, has been fully restored by PTEa with modern interventions and extensions, as a unique office and residential location on the water. In 2004 a second office was opened in Liverpool located in the heart of the city. Recently a further office was opened in Brighton. We feel that PTEa is at the forefront of our profession, in employment terms, retaining an almost unprecedented balanced ratio of 50:50 male to female staff members. Along with this, more than 20 languages are spoken in the office. Every Thursday we share a communal lunch cooked by a staff member. Our management policies underpin the quality of design and service, and help to ensure a creative and fulfilling workplace for our staff. They include: equal opportunities, training, health and safety and customer care. Site created by Stephen Birchmore Photographers Links |
